I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with large LCD or Plasma computer monitors in the 42-50" range. I'm looking to pick one up for a group in my company, but objective details on these items are hard to find, so any info would be appreciated. Now, I'm not referring to HDTV or anything like that, but true large scale LCD or Plasma computer monitors.
i haven't had experience, but from what i read....
these monitors resolutions aren't scalable to high levels.... most you might get is 1024x768.... or possibly 1280x960 or some kind of inbetween widescreen mode.
another is the Burn In effect.... static image displayed all the time will do that... just like those old monitors!!!
I also think that most of the big ones are for presentation like (graphs and powerpoints) and nothing like showing active movies and such because of the slow redraw/refresh rate of those type of monitors. You'll get the blur effect....

Well, this is a presentation monitor for a room where the light cannot be controlled otherwise a projector would be ideal.
I'm very familiar with the limitations of big screen technology, I'm wondering if anyone has actually purchased a 50" monitor to use for computer presentations.
Some of the more expensive LCD projectors dish out enough light that you can run them in a room with direct sunlight. It would probably be cheaper to go with one of these than a 50" plasma display. Aside of this, have you considered getting a monitor array or "monitor wall"?

It has a brilliant picture. I've seen one in the flesh and it was one of the nicest pictures I have seen. The media box that it comes with has more inputs than you can shake a stick at.
The latest 50" Panasonic screens are also very good.

It has a native resolution of 1365x768. Unfortunately, I looked at the Pioneer, but the Sony had better resolution, though admittedly not by much, and we also got 2k off the price while the Pio dealer wouldn't budge.

Hi there,
I do note that plasma TV is thin and all that, but do suck up alot of electricity and generate alot of heat.
LCD is good, but as it's get bigger size, it's cost way too much.

we have a sony very similar to that at work (dont remember the model number, i'll check tomorrow) it looks really good, but had image burn in less than a week. which is realy depressing when you conisider how much they cost.
