Megahertz drivers?

Hello,
I recently picked up a laptop that had a megahertz XJ4288 card modem. I found a flash upgrade to bring it to a 33.6. Everything worked fine but I still only get 28.8 connection. I have been to the website but have not been able to find any help. I have all the settings the same as my main computer. I am wondering if:

1. Anybody has tried this and got it to work?
2. Does anybody know if I need 33.6 drivers to get it to work. (I want to say there was with the package I downloaded but I could not find it)?
3. Is there maybe an init string I should try?
