Hey all.
I believe I am in need of a good reg cleaner for XP.
I frequently install and uninstall programs, and I hate having to "reinstall XP" everytime my PC starts showing signs of slowing down. It's the only maintenance I can't seem to do.
I dont' know enough about the registry to go in and clean it myself, so I was hoping someone could recommend a good automatic reg cleaner.

The techs in the office here use it.
RegClean might work, but MS no longer supports it.

Not free (30+3 day trial), but it's the best one I've come across...
Ghost the drive. then every time you feel the system slowing down it's just 20 minutes later (depending on size) and your back in business and you'll KNOW it works. Just my 0.02

Forgive me, but I dont' quite understand.
If I understand all I know, Ghosting is a mirror image of the hard drive, and therefor would also copy the registry.
Where am I wrong?

EDIT: Wait, are you saying do a fresh install, Ghost the computer, then anytime it's slowing down, go back to that ghost image? The only issue with that is I would loose all data after the Ghost. That's why I was looking for a reg repair program.
You are not wrong... it copies the registry too... I think he is telling you make a ghost of the system before installing all the stuff.... Good idea but depending on your use maybe not the most practical.... Though if you still keep finding yourself having to redo the system all the time definately something you would want to do.

Well, just got back from vaction, and I ran RegSeeker. (it was the freebee of the bunch)
I ran the reg cleaner, and it found 407 things it wanted to get rid of. So I backed up all of my important files, and let it do it's thing.
I'm glad to say that performance has improved. The studdering of the "welcome/login" music has stopped. (that was my first indication that there were problems under the hood)
I did notice that many of the reg deletions involved software that had been long gone.
Thanks for the suggestions on cleaners. They are great for guys like me to do a lot of installing and uninstalling, but aren't reg smart.
There is a good program called system mechanik. It can clean your registry and have more good features. Like finding and deleting junk files.
