Funny Money

OTTAWA - Hang on to any of the new Province of Newfoundland quarters. If
you have them, they may be worth much more than 25 cents. The Canadian Mint
announced today that it is recalling all of the Newfoundland quarters that
are part of its program featuring quarters from each province.

"We are recalling all the new Newfoundland quarters that were recently
issued,Canadian Mint Undersecretary Jack Shackleford said Monday. "This
action is being taken after numerous reports that new quarters will not work
in parking meters, toll booths, vending machines, pay phones, or other
coin-operated devices."

The quarters were issued in the order in which the various Provinces joined
Canada and have been a tremendous
success among coin collectors worldwide.

"The problem lies in the unique design of the Newfoundland quarter, which
was created by a Memorial Universit y of St. John's graduate," Shackleford
said. "Apparently, the duct tape holding the two dimes and the nickel
together keeps jamming the coin-operated devices."

UK 10p pieces can fool machines in Europe into thinking they are 1 Euro coins, (65p). Obviously nobody here would try it as we're all honest aren't we? (but it does work) ;)

Obviously the machines discriminator is not set up to very tight tolerences then?

You can keep your under valued,unwanted euro funny money we should go back to Imperial Thruppeny bits,Florins,Half Soverigns,Ha`pennies and Farthings [s/p?] now that was real money :D

Whats up with 12 pence to the shilling and 20 shillings to the pound,240 pounds to the Ton [not TONNE] and bring back pounds and ounces.I feel a right twit asking for 210g of meat or whatever a proper quarter is these days.

Don't know about it being undervalued, it is doing pretty well against the dollar at the moment.

As for unwanted, believe me it is so much more easy now with the single currency. Pop into another European country for the day and you don't have to worry about messing around in change shops.

Downside is that prices seem to have increased more than the inflation figures would indicate but that could just be me being suspicious.

At least it isn't just our government running into this stuff!!! Our new bills wouldn't work in the different machines to change money... and that was the previous change we had this more recent change of $20 bills they thought ahead and got most of the bill machines to read them... except they forgot the grocery stores and their auto pay lines ( among others ) ....

You can quote weights and measurements until you're blue in the face. All I know is it works because I tried it several times, (research) ;)
