All of a sudden when I open My Computer or any program that shows the directory structure, there is a long delay... 30 seconds or longer I would say. During which I get the magnifying glass/folder animation. Nothing that I can think of has changed, except for my re-installing my HP 2510 Printer. Only think I can think of is that something is going on with the card readers on the printer, that is slowing it down? Any suggestions would be great!

Defrag & checkdisk too (with full boot scan) to eliminate any file system/ disk errors lurking .. have you got the disk indexing service running ? & what about the two smart card services ?

I will try disableing the printer now...
ARGH! I disabled the printer and now it opens just fine. Thats no fun. So now what do I do? I can't stop printing... what really pisses me off is that the reason I was re-installing the printer before was that I just purchased the latest software from HP. (I was having freezing problems with the old one). Hmph. Ideas?

Yeah... it has USB, Ethernet, and 802.11b. As far as the software being a bear...its easy as hell. But man... I think I can install Windows XP and Office faster than the printer!
I did fix the problem though.. .ya know what it was? My router. I reset it.. .and poof! No more delay. Go figure. It wierd because I could still print and my network seemed okay....
BTW, it is installed as a network printer.
Thanks for the help by the way! I was feeling like a noob there for a min having printer problems. I thought that was reserved for the mildly retarded. :)
Nice one :thumbs: ... so go turn off disk indexing again (unless your beast is a busy file server - don't need it)
Aaah you want to turn off "automatically search for network folders and printers" This can be found in my computer, tools, folder options - view - first checkbox.
If it doesn't respond I will dig out the registry keys for it.
To stop the 30 second delay which is caused by installing the HP 2510 PSC all you need to do is disable the following service.
Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
Doing this has had no ill effects on my system what so ever and it fixes the problem instantly without having to restart.
