Win2k and NT forums shouldn't be together

I noticed this a few weeks back, and didn't say anything. But since I am in a mood as of lately...

The Win2k/NT forum seems out of place. Normally when I associate any problems in either of these OS's, server or workstation, I don't see them even close in comparison. I see Win 2k server, and server 2003 similar, where 2003 and XP are similar as well. But lets face it, without a device manager and Active Directory NT4 will never stack up to any of these newer OS's when comparing support methods; thus it should be separate from the bunch, even if the other 3 (2k, XP, 2003) were all grouped together...

Any thoughts?

maybe we could really piss you off and make NT/95/98/ME/2K/XP/2003 one large forum!

But that's the thing, they were all separate until only a few weeks back when they were combined. I think the grouping should be readdressed...that is all.

2k, xp and 2k3 are of a family

NT well... NT is the 3.1 of 9x

I see your points, but disagree that nt should be on its own or lumped in with 9x. 9x was targeted for home users, while nt, 2k, xp(pro) and 2k3 are targeted at business consumers. Since 2k was essentially nt5 with features and compadibility learnt the hard way through the 9x path, it makes sense to me to keep nt and 2k together.

But 2k and 2003 are more suited together than NT and 2k...do you at least see that point?

Someone comes in here asking how to setup DHCP in an NT4 environment; I don't want someone telling him to setup an MMC snap-in to start...

He want to setup a sound card in NT4, I don't want someone telling him to go to computer management/device manager...he needs to hear about Pnpisa.inf,

He want to setup groups for file permissions in NT4, He don't want to know anything about AD...

And don't get me started with setting up modems and dialup connections in NT4!!! Or the lack of USB support!!!

But all of that will be in 2k and 2003, even XP, somewhat universally…NT4 is in itself, by itself…

I just want three forums, the stuff I can answer, the stuff I can't & one for me or you or 'whoever' to take the piss out of whoever else's turn it is today or just try & make us all laugh or sad or whatever the hell reason ! :D

Be glad you ain't got clients who want to use NT 3.51 & count your blessings ! :p

All the 'sections' want 'figuring out & re-jigging' , they always do &/or have, Scott could spend all day inventing new ones & re-classifying - if more folk scoped the forums for stuff they could answer then less informed folks might not 'try' & confuse matters ;)

Do I have to go type 'Ya_know knows his NT4 sh!t good' on every thread to stop you going in a boo ?
