Freeware data recovery software?

Anyone know of any? I've got a customer unit that has a bad FAT table, XP will show that there's data on the drive (about 50 GB). I've tried some shareware softwares that will show me the data but won't let me recover it without buying. Customer doesn't wanna pay for software and the company I work for doesn't provide us with any.
