Wireless LAN

Okay,
This problem is stumping me. At work, we've got a wireless router tapped into our T1 line. 4 of us with laptops have succesfully been able to join the wireless network, while a 5th guy using a Best Buy house brand "VPR Matrix" laptop running Windows XP Home has been unable to join. He's using the same Linksys 54G card as I am, and my connection has been fine. I've set his TCP/IP to obtain the IP automatically and I've given him the same workgroup name that the rest of us use. I get a successfull wireless network connection in his taskbar, it shows that he's connected, but yet he can't pull up anything on his web browser or connect to the internet any other way. Please can you help me. I have no tech support at work because we tapped into the T1 without authorization. Thanks!

Ok well since you are tapped in without authorization then I will not help. I don't think anybody should. You have just created a HUGE security hole. Configured properly or not it's still a risk. Go talk with your IT department.

The reason we tapped in illegally (it was authorized by our sales manager who has a laptop tapped in as well) is because in order to get your own hardline connection at your desk, you have to pay $1100 and you have to use one of their desktops. Laptops aren't an option. Most of us need laptops so we can work from home and make presentations at our clients locations. Our IT department head is anti-laptops because she thinks we're going to download porn and viruses while we're at home. My production has soared since we made the tap and I'm just trying to help a co-worker out.

As far as security goes, we all have firewall programs running on all of our laptops and anti-virus programs as well. The main firewall of the whole network still blocks out all of the sites she doesn't want us going to.
