Power On delay of 30 seconds after button

I have a PC wherein sometimes I push the power on button and nothing happens for as much as 30 seconds or a minute. Then for no apparent reason the PC will suddenly power on, post, and then run okay.

I've seen PC that won't post, and some that won't power on at all. But this thing with a long delay after pressing the power button before ANYTHING happens has me completely mystified.

Any suggestions???

Hi Ray,

Without trying to sound bossy, the more info the better.

What type of PC do you have? A brand name perhaps such as Dell, HP, etc.? Which version of Windows are you using? How about BIOS...up to date?

Have you already tried replacing the power supply? Double-checked all connections going to the mobo? How about the power handling capabilities of the power supply...is it enough to support all of your peripherals? Can you break it down to a bare bones system?

Also, how about the power switch itself? Can you bypass it to get the PC to power up?

Welcome to windrivers raymondeve,Sounds like a bad capacitor to me, but am really a novice in electronics. :)

yup, swap out the psu, if that doesn't work, go over the motherboard with a magnifying glass.

Power supply...

Or if you just built the PC yourself...make sure that you don't have any rogue brass/silver standoffs that are shorting out the motherboard....fat chance but I thought I'd mention it.

Thanks, but it's been running okay for about 3 years, until recently

then look for metallic debris sucked in by the fan, you know odd bits of gum wrappers and so on.

Had a laptop with this problem-got to 3 minutes before startup! It was the Motherboard Battery!
