As a fan of politicking in any of its forms, I found myself surfing channels the other night and came across a broadcast of the British House of Commons on C-Span. I'm not sure how I have managed to miss this before now, but I have to say - I'm impressed.
I watched Blair and some other unnamed gentleman facing off, throwing accusations back and forth and all of it with the very audible cheers and jeers from the assembly. When one or the other would make some potent point, people in the 'stands' to either side would stand-up in the background (I'm assuming to show support?).
Some of the things said by both parties, if said here in our Congress, would herald a virtual onslaught of lawsuits. It was improvisational slashing. I loved it.
I would love to see say, Newt and Daschel in a forum like this. No pretty, pre-conceived, pre-brushed press releases here. Throw out the polished speeches and throw down in a face-to-face like the Brits do.
I'm humbled in my ignorance of their procedure, but truly impressed by what I think is a superior venue for lawmakers to hash out issues.
Thoughts?
