Strange issue - network card, or TCP stack?

For sme reason, my replacement IBM Thinkpad laptop (T30) won't connect to my wireless LAN with the built-in wireless card. So I installed a PCMCIA card that I know works fine on a different laptop.

But here's the problem: for some reason I can't seem to _upload_ much data. I am logged on to my work network via VPN. I can log into Outlook and _receive_ mails, but can't send any. I thought it was permissions at first, but then it turns out that I can send only _very small_ mails (e.g. only a few kB). It's a similar story when I connect to our webmail site (Outlook via the web). I can receive mails, but not send anything more than a couple of kB.

When I plug directly into the router with a patch cable, I can send and receive fine using webmail. But that raises anothe problem - now I can't log onto VPN - I get an error telling me that the 2 computers cannot agree on a PPP communication protocol?!

So then:

PCMCIA wireless = log on to VPN, but can't seem to send much data.
wired NIC = send/receive is fine, but can't access VPN.

Tried reinstalling drivers for both built-in wi-fi and my own PCMCIA wi-fi. No joy.

This is an old laptop, and it wouldn't surprise me if it is screwed. I'm thinking maybe of reinstalling TCP-IP? I searched forum, but couln't find how to do this for Win2k...

I'm on Win2k Pro sp3.

Anyone got any ideas?

Looks like it was a combination of both NIC and TCP.

Reinstalled TCP/IP, which sorted out the VPN access - I suspect that would sort out the PCMCIA card, too although I haven't tried it yet. Plus downloaded updated drivers and couple of IBM utilities for the on-board wireless card. Now the on-board wireless wors like a charm - am now running VPN through the on-board wireless.

It's a nice feeling to get it all working!
