Microsoft and RSA Security on Wednesday started beta testing a product designed to phase out the use of traditional passwords and replace them with automatically generated passwords from a SecurID token.
I'm just getting a jump on the inevitable lawsuit in 12-18 months from now where RSA sues Microsoft for stealing their technology.

Did you read MS was awarded a patent on the "Double-Click" for handheld devices running Pocket PC software. Does that mean they can get the double click for Longhorn?

Several years ago, when my brother was a "high tech fabrication manager" for Boeing in Seattle, MS was helping Boeing do this with remote logins. He said it was a pain, but he has, for some weird reason, had a difficult time with computers.
You can flame me if you like, but I think MS gets a bad rap on this "stealing" charge. Their business model is excellent: "if we don't come up with something first, then lets see what's out there and make it better, or more intuitive, or more feature laden, or...."
Whole countries have done this with great success, including Japan, Taiwan, and now China.
I don't get it.

I agree that sometimes MS does that. But there are a lot of cases where MS copied something (and it wasn't as good as the original) and then used their monopoly power to force the original software company out of business.Quote:

Indeed, years ago, Netscape was the first and it was best...until AOL bought it.
And, RP was real good, at the beginning, but now, I don't want it on pc's I work on except after much tweaking to get rid of all the crap.
Novell? Which part? They were great at the beginning as well (when I was the lead tech years ago at a college, we were a Novell shop, 3.12 if I recall), but they blew it, too.
Can you really blame MS for those companies failures?
Hey, even WordPerfect, which I still prefer over Word is a good example. In fact, I think a better examplet than the ones so far used. But first WP, then Novell owned and drove it into the ground, and now Corel. Geesh. Is this the fault of MicroSoft?
Indeed you are right about their power in the market, since they all run on their OS, and I agree they should have been sued in the past.
But, that does not make EVERYTHING they do bad. That is all I am saying here.
I have to agree with Trip on this. (Who the hell said that?) Remember the commercial where some Japanese? car company gets miffed because of cup holders? They had cup holders in their cars way before the American cars. Now American cars have cup holders that will hold the infamous Big Gulp cups. You don't see lawsuits over that. Because it is technology based, and less understood by the Judges, juries, etc. you see lawsuits all the time trying to push, test the waters over what they can get away with.
Microsoft has the money, resources to look at a program, product, etc. and study it, improve upon it, market it way better than most companies. They should not be punished for it.
I am quite surprised that it has taken them this long to start messing with Antivirus. I see a day when no 3rd party antivirus program will work properly in Windows.Quote:

To tell the truth: ms should be the one dealing with viruses within there own OS. I mean who better? And, worse yet: the new and oftentimes worse malware problem. Geesh: I have done more malware jobs over the last month than virus jobs, and they are worse than ANY virus I have ever seen. It's like looking for a needle in a haystach when you find one that is "undiscovered" and the normal approach fails.
Have to agree with TripleRLtd, MS gets blamed alot. I mean they dont hire dumb code writers do they, they get the best and the brightest, if HP and Compaq, AOL Time Warner can get bigger and bigger, isnt that against competition.
And WMP is much better than most players, MediaPlayer Classic is also good though. If it werent for IE we would still have to pay for a browser, Netscape was practically against the concept of free software, and so what if MS wants to bundle more with the OS, good for us, we dont like it we dont use it. Period.
We should all be thanking them for pretty much wiping Real Player out of existence.Quote:
