What do you already have in the way of firewire or video in?
If you have neither, then best quality is using firewire (i-link) bundled with a dedicated program, I personally use pinnacle.... but there are others. The camera may not have come with a firewire (i-link) cable, but they are not expensive to buy. Just make sure you get the right one.
If you have video in, the get the rca cables that came supplied with your camera, plug them into the cam and the video in, you can capture with www.virtualdub.org nicely, but it will not be dvd quality.
sorry, i meant to get back sooner. its not my camera, but a friend of mine. they don't have any cables for it. i looked at the camera and there is an S-video port. so, with that information, what type of cable am i looking for. and what about for my pc. do i need a tv tuner card?Quote:

To transfer to your computer you will need a video in card...the specs say the svideo is "special" whatever that means. Check the user guide for what the svideo port is for.
A tv card will have video in/svideo. You then need to use the aforementioned virtual dub or the capture program that comes with the card.
