overclocking the P4 2.40C

Hi guys, I just got a new processor for my computer (P4 2.40C). I bought it because I heard it was very easy to overclock with and stable at higher speeds. I've looked at a couple online manuals on how to do it, but nothing seems to work. I'm not new to overclocking but I'm new to Intel, this is my first Intel Processor. Any ideas on how to get this thing OC'd, maybe within the 2.6-2.8 range (I hear that speeds of 3.4 are possible with this chip, but I dont want to push it that far). I've got a huge copper heatsink on top of it and right now its running at maybe 35*C. Any help would be appreciated :-D

What motherboard?

Most new mobo's have a utility on the CD that comes with it, that allow you to dynamically overclock, in Windows itself.

I assume you know that intel cpu's are multiplier locked. You need to alter the bus speed (which will o/c your video as well) and voltage.

The motherboard is an Abit IC7-G with the 875P chipset. I figured Intel would lock their multipliers, but I didnt know how to get around that. This might be a dumb question, but how do I change the bus speeds so i can get this thing runnin faster? Thanks guys :-D

ok, after reading more into depth about the situation, heres the summary of what i've tried so far. The 2.4C will boot at 3.00 (250) and 5/4 or 3/2 divider with fixed agp. It boots but will not post. what am I doing wrong? Help! :(

250 is pretty fast and a big OC, realise thats a 25% increase in clock speed, try lowering it a tad and see what happens

ok i backed off to 210, and still I get an infinite reboot, the windows screen never comes up.any ideas?

What are your temps showing?

usually between 39-45*C

Thats pretty good for an OC, ur Copper hs must be doing a good job.

yea its a zalman all copper heatsink (cant remember model name, Cu-1000 maybe) and as3 inbetween.
