Im building my first pc and keep running into a problem towards the end of XP setup, it says that windows cannot detect my hard drives. I know im supposed to have a disk from manufacturer for when u have to press f6, but they didnt send me one and the files that i do try to download are too big for regular floppy disks. I have a K8V SE Deluxe Asus Mobo and 2 wd 36.7 gb raptor SATA drives. If anyone can pls help me im lost.
Is there a utility in the files they send you that will create the floppies?

There is a driver file on the cd that you put on a floppy.... the drivers are here either the sata raid or the standard sata[/url] depending on what you are trying to set up.
ya thats the website i went to but when i download it which files need to go on the floppy in order for it to work. If i have 2 hd's i beleive im using Raid configuration
I am very confused right now :(
My best guess would be the drivers for the Promise FastTrak 378 RAID. Those should work just fine for you. Then run the file called "MakeDisk" which will install the files you'll need onto a floppy diskette. After that, you'll be all set. :thumbs:Quote:

Click on My Computer, click on your hard drive (probably C drive) and create a new folder and name it Promise. Click on the link that NooNoo supplied and download the newer Promise 378 controller driver and download it to the Promise folder. Click on the zip file. If you are running Windows XP it will display the Promise378 folder after unzipping. Click on that. There should be a number of different folders including the MakeDisk folder that Spork mentioned. Put a blank formatted floppy in the A drive, click on the MakeDisk folder and select Run. It will automatically transfer the appropriate files to the floppy. Take the floppy out. Launch the Windows XP setup on the new computer and press F6 when prompted. Setup will continue loading and finally display a prompt to install controller drivers. Press S and insert the floppy. Select the drivers for Windows XP. When asked if more drivers need to be installed press Enter. Setup will continue and automatically install the appropriate drivers from the floppy. Make sure the Raptors are connected to the Promise RAID connecters on the motherboard, the jumpers are both set to Master, and you have previously created an array. To get into the Promise BIOS, hit Control F.Quote:

OK i tried downloading both of them and made seperate disks for each, however when promted i pressed S and put in disk and pressed enter then it said please wait... then went back to the screen that says please put your manufacturer-supplied disk in the A: drive and press enter" I tried both and nothing and then tried putting my 2 SATA in the other pri and sec slots on MB and setup fasttrack and still nothing with both diskettes...
cant seem to quite figure this out.
Use another machine to explore the contents of the diskettes. Please post what files are on each diskette.
Did you read chapter 5-2 (page 123 onwards) of the manual? It describes how to create the raid array. That has to be created before you can install anything.

It seems that ive tried everything im not quite sure whats going wrong... ive tried plugging the 2 sata connectors into the fastrack slots and the RAID slots and using both disks but it just keeps asking me to insert the disk supplied by the manufacturer. :(
any one know? starting to think it could be my floppy drive not reading or nto installed correctly?
I dont think you read the chapter 5 of the manual yet....
