I don't get them, but my wife does. It got to a point several years ago that she was basically cuffed by them. Then her Doctor (a Psychiatrist not a Family Doctor) put her on 40 mg a day of Paxil and it has helped immeasurably. She is now on 10 mg a day and hasn't suffered a bad episode in over 6 years.
As to your question of what brought them on hell just day to day life in general. Seriously my wife would sit there and think about things and the more she thought of them the worse she would get. She tried Bio-feedback which did help a little, but it wasn't the whole answer. She was on Xanax for awhile, but all it did was numb her. She has finally learned to sit back take a deep breath and deal with it. The Paxil has greatly helped with this.
My advice is if you or someone close to you is experiencing Panic Attacks get professional help. If you have a Family Doctor who is familiar with these disorders all the better if not pursue the proper help. It will make a huge difference.
