HELP! PCMCIA problem

I've been trying to figure out for quite sometime now why the LInksys wireless card that i bought doesn't work with my laptop. I am running a COMPAQ presario 2100 with windows XP. i checked with windows, and it seems that the hardware is compliant.

i tried using the wifi card with my friend's laptop and IT WORKS! Mine couldn't even detect that there is something plugged into the PCMCIA cardslot. The driver of my PCMCIA cardbs is O2Micro OZ6912 Cardbus Adapter Controller.

Do you guys know of a solution??? thanks in advance

do you have sp1 installed?
Have you tried the card in both slots?
Have you checked with compaq for updated drivers/bios?

I got a Compaq from school oh so long ago (like 1996) and they told us a little something funny about the PCMCIA slots on it: There were two slots, the bottom one was the only one our Network Card would work in. The top one works for a whole bunch of lower end stuff (controllers, soundcard, etc) but not for a modem or NIC. They said something about Compaq skimping on the parts to support NIC in both slots. Basicly I'm suggesting that you try it in another slot on your comp. I really dislike Compaq because they do stupid stuff like that to save money.

I have a Compaq Presario 12xl325, originally had WinME, but upgraded to XP Pro. I've tried D-Link and Linksys card, but neither are recognized in my PCMCIA slot either. The lights don't even come on. I didn't have drivers available off HP's compaq site, and I don't know how to find out if my bios needs updated (kinda foggy on that stuff). Anyone know how to troubleshoot the slot itself?

I have had the EXACT same problem with compaq laptops, sometimes it does not recognize the PCMCIA chipset (cardbus controller) that is installed (which would not suprise me if you did a ME to XP upgrade), check your device manager under "PCMCIA adapters" and see what the drivers/chipset/cardbus controllers are, if there are any. You might have to SCOUR Compaq's site or just google it with a query like ""Compaq Evo n1000" +PCMCIA"

(I just googled it myself with """Compaq Presario 12XL325" +cardbus" and it came up as Texas Instruments PCI1410 PC card Cardbus Controller so that what you SHOULD see"

Now I can tell you from experience that I could NOT get a Linksys wireless A card (54 Mbps I think) to work in a Compaq Evo N1000, N1000v, N1020 N1020v notebook. If I tried to boot any of those with the card in it, it would not get past the Windows XP screen unless I removed it, if I inserted after boot up and logon, it would completely freeze up the laptop.

This may be of interest.

I had huge problems with my Compaq Evo N1020v and a 3Com Officeconnect 802.11G Wireless card. I tried every update from Compaq and 3com alike to no avail. The card would sometimes work fine, and then suddenly shut down and die. I got a Code 10 message when I tried to reenable it (driver cannot start). This happened randomly.

What I did was to change the driver for the cardbus from the "Texas Instruments 4410 Cardbus Controller" driver to the "Generic Cardbus Controller" driver supplied by MS, and then the card immediately came up and has been working fine since. My Evo is running XP Pro with SP2 and all patches.

I have a 12XL325 Compaq as well. I have Windows XP SP2 installed, and I am using a USRobotics 802.11g wireless pcmcia card; Everything works fine!

I tried a Linksys card and I too could not get it to work!

Also, my internal modem works with the drivers Windows XP provided, but the device manager still shows that there is an unknown pci simple communications controller!? I have no clue what device is being detected, but everything works.

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilod D 7850 Notebook with the texas instruments PCI-1410 Cardbus slot.
When run a wireless network card (level-1 11g wireless PCMCIA) my processor runs at 50% utilisation all the time...if I unplug the card the processor goes back to normal.

Please help me

have you been to fujitsu support? There is a bios update and a chipset update that may make a difference.

What windows are you running?
