Car Insurance WTF???

Car insurance rates are a friggin' joke...

Had a '99 Jeep Wrangler with a soft top for about 3 years. Gas mileage is kicking my a@@!!! Traded in Jeep & bought 2004 Chevy Cavalier (4-cylinder). Called insurance agent with VIN Number and was told insurance will go down $313 / year :thumbs2:

That was two days ago.

Get bill in mail today...rate goes up $20/month. WTF.

Call Progressive. They tell me that my insurance went up $190 / year. (miscommunication w/ insurance agent).

I can not logically understand how a 4-cylinder Chevy (domestic) Cavalier could possibly cost more to insure than a '99 Jeep wrangler with soft top (Easy to roll -- have done it in the past).

PS -- Have clean driving record (no tickets or accidents) for past 6 years.

I say once again -- WTF

Jeep = 1999
Cavalier = 2004

Newer = more $$$$$$$

I'm sure if you look at the policies, you'll see the increase is in the collision, comprehensive area. As 3fs said newer=more $$

oh but how do they justify 150% hicked in canada post 911 because of an "increased security threat. The highest rate hikes were in bloody newfoundland

Went with AAA Car Insurance. No problems and a bit cheaper.

Shop around...Progressive Sucks....

I just bought a house and had them look at all my stuff, got my car insurance down from 655 every 6 months to 855 a YEAR......I was VERY pleased with that!! :thumbs:

I got a letter awhile back that I could be part of a class action lawsuit against Progressive because of their overcharging customers. Sent it back haven't heard anything back yet. :flame:

I recently changed from Progressive to Unitrin (www.unitrindirect.com) I got much better coverage, and my price for a year from Unitrin was around what Progressive was charging me for 6 months.

Aren't rates set on Federal level?

Then don't forget how credit rating can jack it all up as well...

I believe the government only requires that insurance companies charge 'something' extra for people who have certain violations. Either way, see my above post for what happens in the real world.
