Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM) doesnt work on XP!!

My Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM) -or- SoundBlaster Audio PCI 64D whichever you prefer; doesnt work on XP at all. I get no sound. I upgraded my computer from 98 to XP and got no sound when I started up my computer. I was told to download a Creative AudioPCI 128 driver. The download told me that I must have my SoundBlaster working. Device Manager tells me that it is working properly. I went throught the Help and Support and it got me nowhere. Other than buying a new sound card, what can I do to get it to work? What kind of information do I need to give? sorry if this problem has been brought up before!

yes, im using a gateway. i used the audiopci 128 and it told me that it didnt detect any soundblaster cards on my system. then i have to exit. i have also checked the services.msc and my windows audio is started.

Ok to save me going hunting what motherboard this bios string might represent can you provide us with the model number please ?

You might need 'some tinkering' with this board to get that to behave under xp so it'll see your s/b correctly (soundblasters are famed for not sharing resources correctly, so if the motherboard info that windows detects isn't just so it might not get found 'right') this might mean a bios flash or chipset patches.

Is the sound built into the motherboard or is it a separate sound card. If the latter, look at the sound card for a code in the form of ES#### or CT####. Creative made many different versions of this card and they don't all use the same drivers. If you do have the ES1371 or ES1373, the drivers you need are not on the Creative web site - you need the native windows drivers.

i cant find a model number. where can i (btw new to the inside of computers) i used the Blearc advisor thing and it doenst tell me a model number, or atleast i dont think it does...

After doing a bit of digging on Gateway, it appears that you have the Ensoniq ES1373 controller w/ a Crystal CS4297 codec. Both of these are natively supported in XP, however getting the combination recognized could be difficult, particularly if you upgraded from 98 to XP (instead of doing a clean install). Creative does not have XP drivers for the ES 1373 and Crystal (Cirrus) does not have XP drivers for anything. Gateway has a W2K driver for what appears to be your audio on its web site (if you provide the serial # on the web site, it will give you the specific downloads for your machine). http://support.gateway.com/support/d...3&uid=64175079 You could also try the Cirrus W2K driver for the CS4299 (there is no CS4297 driver) http://www.cirrus.com/en/support/drivers/audio/OS3.html Uninstall any drivers you have already installed before trying either of these.

Been down that road. Just search the forum for ES1371. None of the XP AudioPCI, PCI64, PCI128, etc. drivers on the Creative web site will work with the ES1371 or ES1373. If you read the details, you will see that the driver is for specific model numbers.
