Ken Caminiti (1996 NL MVP in Baseball) died today in New York. He was 41. Ostensibly, he died from "heart failure", but he was an admitted active cocaine addict, and he admitted using massive amounts of steroids while a player.
Sad, but I guess he no longer is tortured.
Rest in Peace, Ken. Very few played the game harder than you.
He was a cheat, and as a player that put him at the bottom of the barrel in my opinion. If it weren't for all of the bad things he did, nobody would even know who he was.
But he also had a family, and he really didn't deserve to die so young. His legacy now is to show young players and athletes that taking shortcuts in life isn't worth the risk.

At least he admitted it, without people like him people would still be in a bubble and not believe that any of them are hopped up on roids.

Yeah, I liked him, too: as a baseball player. I wouldn't go beyond that, though. I have known and I've been someone like him, and I'll be the first to admit, drug addicts have a hard time helping themselves, no less being "good" for others, no less society. That being said, he did "come clean" as it were, and then give us all an insight into the world of drug use in pro sports. His voice was disputed by "guess who"? Ones who are "suspected" of abusing drugs, too. Surprise, surprise.
So, in the end, he may not have been able to help himself, but he tried to shine a light on a problem which may be so "hidden" that the powers that be in baseball are only just now starting to address. Now, I wonder why that is?

Yeah, he still had VERY close friends on the Astros. He obviously would have loved to see this happen for them.
What a waste of potential, eh? We all remember the *fire* of Ken Caminiti. Somehow, Morgan Ensberg just doesn't quite conjure up the same mojo.
