I have reformated my hard drive, now I have placed the Win XP Home Edition CD in the drive and try to load it and it loads to 32 min, then LOCKS and doesn't go past that time no matter HOW LONG I leave it there!! How do I get it to load correctly?? And FINISH loading??
Has XP ever been on this PC before? If not, then it may very well be possible that there's problems with the Memory that weren't noted in previous operating systems installed. To test this, you’d either want to replace the memory, or remove one stick at a time, and rerun the setup.
Also, start by removing all nonessential components in the PC, any sound, modem, NIC, disconnect all USB and LPT items, including any drives such as zip drives, (internal or external).
Also, let the XP CD do the formatting of the disk, don’t preformat it with a boot disk. Although in theory it should work, you may have some inconsistency there that the CD can fix when you repartition the drive, and reformat it. Those options come up during the blue screen initial setup…
Just some opening ideas…
I would also look at the CD to make sure it wasn't scratched or dirty.

Yes, it had Windows XP on the computer, I went thru the floppy disks and reformated the C: drive, nothing more is hooked to the computer except the keyboard and the mouse and screen.Quote:

Does it have a virus that didn't get wiped off when reformatting the C: drive??
Try to copy the files under the i386 folder into a folder on your formatted hard drive and launch the installation from there.
If the files can't be all copied over, then there is a problem with your CD.
Sorry, I am NOT a computer expert, I did find something on the net telling me how to copy the files to i386 folder and I did, but I do NOT know how to do it all............can u tell me the steps to take and all the info I need to do that??Quote:

You say you have started the install from the floppy drive.... why? XP cd is bootable and is the best way to do this.
Okay, on the front of the computer it says V Premier w/Intel Inside Pentium 4 and AT Pro (that is all it has written on it!!).............and the reason I used floopy disks to start the reformat, that is how I reformatted my computer at home...........many MANY times!! I didn't know u cud use the XP CD to reformat either!! I know computers now have a RESTART and FIX automatically on them...........so it reformats itself, but this computer is apxly 1 yr old.Quote:
