Audigy 2 Firewire Problem

I can't get the firewire port on my Audigy 2 Platinum to work. I'm running Win2K Pro SP4.

In Device Manager, the IEEE 1394 Controller shows up with the exclamation point in front of it. The properties say that The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28). Whenever I try to re-install the drivers, I get the message that Windows was unable to locate a driver for this device. I have told the install to look in every conceivable directory on my system, nothing works.

Creative tech support claims that the driver should be included with the OS. I have recently run Windows update and still no luck. I have combed the Microsoft Web site hoping to find a download of the drivers and I can't even find any info on what file names I need to try and verify if I have them.

Any help at all would be appreciated. I am desperate!

If it matters, my mobo is an Epox EP-8K7A+ with an AMD Athlon 1.2 Gig CPU, and yes I checked Epox support for any updates, there are none.

I'm having the same problem. I have tried Lacie and Q-tec cards but I get code 28 and still havent found any solution on the net. Im still looking hard and if I find a solution then I will let you know and please let me know if you find a cure.

...one thing could work for you though it didn't work for me.

Uninstall SP2 if you have it, remove IEEE from device manager, reboot and see if your PC detects the drivers. This worked for some, advice given on Driversguide.

tmarnik is running Win2k SP4 Kallilu, but a variation of your suggestion may help.

tmarnik, welcome to WinDrivers. Have you tried starting in Safe Mode, removing any instances of the 1394 controller from the Device Manager (there may be multiples) and re-booting to allow Windows to find the card afresh? Creative is correct about the drivers, Windows has built-in Firewire drivers, there will be no other downloads available.

When you say there were no updates, is that both BIOS and motherboard drivers?

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but I got everything working last night!

It turns out I was missing the 1394.inf file for some reason. Luckily I have another Win2k machine so I was able to copy the file over. I was then able to install the driver and everything is now working beautifully.

The frustration is that it took me forever to figure out the name of the file that I was missing. It seems like Microsoft ought to have a resource that lists all of the files needed for a given driver.

I would also expect that Windows Update should detect those missing files and download them for you.

Oh well. Water under the bridge I guess.
