Is there a utility or method of changing the product key in windows 98?
Sure. In Win98, you can just go into the registry and change it to anything you like, once Windows is finished with the installation. I have no idea why someone would want to do this in 98, however.Quote:

Its not the code which makes it legal but the ownership of a licence to run the software.
OK, but surley the number on the coe on the licence book sould be applied
In a real world yes but provided the licence is not used else where I dont think MS is going to be raiding his property very soon.
can anyone show me a path into the registry?
Ok here's a program that everyone should have, Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder now to get some additional features(like changing the key) you need to download the beta that found hidden on his website that is located here http://www.magicaljellybean.com/beta/kf15b3.zipQuote:

The Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder is a freeware utility that retrieves your Product Key (cd key) used to install windows from your registry. It has the options to copy the key to clipboard, save it to a text file, or print it for safekeeping. It works on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Office 97, and Office XP. This version is a quick update to make it work with Windows Server 2003.
Hope this helps!
