NEC 2500A DVD RW shows up as CDROM when Blank DVD-R media inserted

Hey all,

I'm new to the board, but I've got a problem that I've seen others mention, but have been unable to find a solution. Here goes:

I have an NEC 2500A DVD RW. It worked fine with my RITEK G05 DVD-Rs until about two hours ago.

Now when I insert a blank DVD-R Windows XP Explorer reports the DVD-RW as a CD Drive.

I can't burn any DVDs.

It seems like a WINXP error, registry perhaps, but I can't figure it out.

I have SP2 installed, and all other updates have been installed.

I'm using Copy2DVD 3 from VSO software and have not had a problem until tonight.

I hope someone out there can give me a hand. Please!

sounds like aspi layer is screwed, as for erinstalling it, i cant remember right now, willl look up and postl ater

Hello I had a similiar problem. You can go to ADAPTEC fr the driver or you can go to FORCEASPI17. Place that in the browser and it should find the site which will update your aspi.

Look in Nero info / tools /configure to find your way in, you will see a tab with ASPI on it. One of the screens on the aspi tab may say the ASPI is corrupted.

The force site repaired my ASPI issue when I couldn't locate the ASPI on any other site.

Read carefully and make sure the site information is directly related to your problem.
