DVD Video question
Ok here is the situation. Our marketing VP wants to put one of our commercials in a powerpoint presentation. I said no problem as I assumed that he had a AVI of the commercial that he wanted. He Produces a DVD of all of our commercials. My question is this How can I capture edit extract a video clip from a DVD so that I can make a AVI for this guy. I have a copy of pinnicale studio 8 (it came with a DVD burner we put in the Imagecast server)
Oh and per the legal crap The DVD being used was produced and rights owned by my employer, and is not encrypted.

Sounds like you need a chapter to avi convertor.
Lots available via your favorite search engine.

I know DVD Shrink will at least capture it to the hard drive in mpeg-2 format. Then perhaps Windows Movie Maker could capture it, then it could be converted to AVI? I dunno. This is all I can think of at the moment. Try zdnet.com and see if they have any freeware dvd-->avi capture software.

See if this works: http://dvdx.sourceforge.net/
Lots of guides for a variety of software here if you get stuck.

Or... very homegrown idea I've seen used. Be warned-video quality will suffer. Hookup your DV camcorder to outputs of your standalone DVD player, record, capture. Not the best way by far, but uses equipment most people have without any purchase. *not for resale!*
