Has anyone else noticed....

Ever since working in IT (ok, I work in a corporate enviornment) I seem to get MUCH sicker than I ever did before starting this job. My theory is all the machines I end up at and peoples kb's that I touch....Lord knows what some of the illnesses they have had and are passing on. This season already I've had 2 sinus infections and once case of strep throat.

I know, use the antibacterial stuff and wash my hands alot...but 1/2 the time I forget the antibacterial stuff, and no amount of washing seems to do it 100%

I'm just wondering as it seems the other tech here is sick way more often too.

Has anyone else noticed this?

The maintenence guy at one of customers won't shake anyones hand anymore. Whenever I see him, I shake air as a sort of "salute".

This is really a good point. I always wash my hands after working on someones computer, but still. There's stuff we ingest through breathing, etc. So I guess the big question is,... how to avoid it? Should I start wearing a mask and rubber gloves?

I always spray every computer down I touch with a garden hose first!! :devil:

Not really, but my drinking levels keep rising as my hatred for all humans keeps rising due to this job.

I've thought about it... :thumbs: as I'm having heart surgery next month and need to stay healthy for it...since I just got this last sinus infection they gave me some stuff thats supposed to keep me from getting anymore of this "crap" til the surgery...hopefully it works! If so, maybe I'll sign up for some every year! :D :D

We need to somehow band together to prove this is whats causing it...and demand either hazard pay, or more sick time! :thumbs2:

Yeah, getiing sick more often is part of the job. I wonder if being inside all the time has anything to do with it?

Interesting notion.

I have definitely been getting more since getting into IT 5 years ago.

I'm the opposite, I've never caught as much "crap" or used as much sick time as I have in I.T. :(

Well they do say viruses can mutate so maybe..............

I think an experiment will need to be setup to examine this whole issue more closlier. We will need a control subject and an experimentation subject. Who's going to volunteer?
