Mapped Drives Don't Appear or Appear After A Long Period Of Time

Win 2003 Server Environment:

One of the laptops in a dept. is running win xp pro. With or without sp2, the mapped drives don't appear when I log on. If they do appear, its only after a long period of time. I keep opening and closing out of My Computer, and eventually it shows...sometimes.

When I map it myself, I can access it. I have selected reconnect at login, but it just doesn't do the trick.

Since, there is only one user in the dept which is having this problem, I have tried resetting their computer account and deleting their user account and creating a new one in Active Directory, but no luck.

Any suggestions?

I noticed this happen on my work PC the other day, I mapped a drive and it took a loooong time for it to show up in My Computer.

You can probably still get to it from a run prompt. Just go to start->run and key in the drive like z: and hit enter.

I know it's kinda a workaround but, maybe someone else has an answer?

edit: and BTW mine's an NT4 domain, so it's probably an XP thing?

Used to get a similar problem where a red cross would appear on the network drive, although you clicked on it and could browse the files/folders....

I can't remember exactly where, but I did switch off the "allow computer to turn off this to save power" on the network card properties. Haven't had the issue since. Might be worth a try.

What are the power options on the laptop set to? Is it possible it's going to sleep and then not automatically re-connecting on wake-up?

Corturba-

I did uncheck the checkbox for "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" and it worked!!!!! All my network drives show up!

It's funny how the littlest things make a difference in windows.

For anyone else who is having the same problem with their laptop, go to:

Network connections-->Properties-->Click on "Configure" under your NIC-->Power Mgmt Tab-->Uncheck "allow computer to turn off this device to save power."
