My new system - WOOOOHOOOO!!!!

Got to dump some company stock options and bossman came through with a good bonus this year......so I went toy shopping:

Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
Asus P5GDI Northbridge i915P Southbridge ICH6R
800Mhz FSB
2GB Corsair DDR
GeForce 6600 256MB DDR
250GB Maxtor SATA 8MB cache
Lite-on LDW-811S DVDRW 8x
ATI TV Wonder VE (for recording Sopranos and COPS).

Also picked up for good measure:

160GB Maxtor external hard drive Firewire/USB 2.0
Canon PIXMA iP4000 photo printer

Got all the parts sprawled out on my dining table right now. Yowzaa!!!! :D

To my fellow AMD lovers -

My Athlon T-bird 1.0Ghz has served me well for over 3 years. It was time for an upgrade. I figured I have fooled around with AMD/Cyrix-based systems and avoided Pentiums long enough. Sorry, but I have gone to the dark side!!!

AMD = Small
Intel = Big
Rebels = Small
Empire = Big
Rebels = Light
Empire = Dark

Therefore:

AMD = Small = Rebels = Light

King that is a sweet system, I've been aspiring to create a work of art such as that for a while now but have'nt made any commitments, I just gotta ask: where did you gather the parts, which case did you decide on (the toughest part in my opinion),and unless it's too presumptious how much did the final beauty run you? And of course the most important question...

You must get a warm fuzzy feeling looking at each part you so carefully selected all laid out before you...Hell it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling just thinking about it. :D

there's just some indescribable feeling of satisfaction you get from creating something, especially if it's a something you can be proud of, let us know when it's together. :thumbs:

Sweet system, but I gotta ask, why only 3.0 GHz?? Was that all you could afford, or is it something else?

Either way, that system should smoke once you get it all assembled and loaded up with a fresh copy of ME ! :devil:

I couldn't see blowing $500 on a 3.6Ghz. Gonna wait for the price to come down a few $ and maybe upgrade early next year.

Got most of the parts from local CompUSA and another local computer store.

The case is a plain-jane Antec case w/ 500W PSU - jet black. I wanted plain black because I plan to stick this one in my entertainment rack and I wanted it to match.

Total system cost (not counting the external HDD and printer) came in just under $1,000.

As for names, ever since I first watched Full Metal Jacket, I have always been partial to Charlene.

Totally!! Actually I am also staring at about $200 in mail-in rebates which will drop my cost down to about $800. I priced similar parts on CDW and buy.com and came out about $700.
