Got my new system up and running this weekend (with an assist from MobilePCphysician and TripleRLtd....thanks).

Here she is just before her first boot up. Don’t make fun of my wiring job, I cleaned it up later. Specs:

Pentium 4 @ 3.0Ghz CPU
Nvidia GeForce 256MB on PCI Express 16x graphics adapter

Maxtor 250GB SATA HDD
Maxtor 80GB IDE HDD
Lite-on 8x DVD-RW

Installed in the entertainment center w/ keyboard and mouse. Gives new meaning to the term universal remote.

And yes, that is my “legacy” DVD player to the right. That is soooooo last week. </sarcasm>

Antec case w/ 420W PSU.

The parts for the machine came in just shy of $1,000. I pulled the DVD-RW and capture card from another system I own.

Retail on a system like this would run well over $2k, so I figure I did pretty good.

Actually this is my 4th system I have built for myself. I have also built countless systems for other people. I used to do a lot of side-work in my pre-corporate days. Got out of the biz because overhead was getting to $high$.

Custom built is definitely the way to go.

I could have saved a few $ if I had more time and scoped out the parts online. But I wanted to get this out of the way so I can focus on Christmas shopping. Plus the money was just burning a hole in my pocket!!!!

Yes it will! Have had 2 customers do the same thing and the hard drive kept coming up with errors. After a format and relocation the errors were gone.

Naaah .. (depends on how good the shielding is inside those speaker cases) but methinks a tinfoil hat will sort that out {or variation thereof} if thats the only 'nice' place to put it .. so here's one for Trip as he seems obsessed with certain matters at the moment :D
