WooHoo!!! I bought a new digital camera today...

My Kodak DX6340 bit the dust last week at work (co-worker accidently dropped it +2 stories). https://forums.windrivers.com/images.../2005/03/1.gif

After looking at several brands and models I went with the Fujifilm FinePix E550. 6.3 mega pixel (operates in 12 mega pixel mode - somekind of of Fuji CCR enhancement), 4X optical zoom (I can buy a 1.94X Telephoto lens too), and ISO 80-800 settings, plus a whole bunch of different settings too.
I got home too late to play with it much tonight but new pictures will follow soon. :D

Cool congrats on the new cam Major,.. as long as it uses SDRAM instead of that crappy Compact Flash memory,.. then it should be a great camera.

i dont like the sdram ones, mostly only 16mb, i got a 64mb CF card

It uses xD picture memory so I bought a 256 meg flash card. It's real tiny. I have 3 card readers in the house but I had to buy a Fuji USB xD card reader, none of the other readers have a xD slot. The Kodak was SD memory. In 12 meg "N" mode it will hold 105 pictures.

Oh cool. I never heard of that kind of memory. Is it new? I thought SDRAM was the way to go because it's becoming so standardized.

12 megapixles? If you take shots of mars and blow them up can you see the little green men?

SDRAM? Thats the standard inbuilt memory WH. Or are u talking about SD Cards? AFAIK the CF cards are the most common, but as in Sony and another brand, they use their Memory Stick and teh new Pro versions of those. xD are now becoming more common.

xD has been around a while, but I believe it is a Fuji proprietary technology. That means other people have to pay Fuji to use/manufacture it, so it can be pricey.

Olympus and Fujitsu developed it together... Olympus brand is shedloads more pricey than the fujitsu. The idea is that you use the Olympus stuff to do panoramic shots I think... would have to look that up though.

I had a Fuji given to me for my b-day 2 years ago, and it took Xd, which is cool cause it is so small. Thing that sucked was like MK said, most readers don't have slots for it, so it can be a bit of a pain!

Has anyone seen the prices for the new SD stuff? $79 for 1 gig! OMG!

My uncle managed to get one that size for $40....a crazy discount at some place, plus a members' discount.:thumbs:
