Is wireless connection all that it is cracked up to be?

I have used modems all my life but with more and more new notebooks with wireless technology, I am beginning to wonder if it is the way to go. As anyone come across any problems with wireless connections?

Depends what you mean by wireless. Most notebooks w/ wireless technology are talking about centrino, which is 802.11b or 802.11g (wifi). This is a technology which allows wireless connections over a distance of several hundred feet. It is essentially a replacement for network cable - you still need to bring service (dsl, cable, t1) to the premises and distribute it using a wireless router. I use it for my home network. The other type of wireless is high speed wireless internet access over the cellular network. You need a card for your laptop (not built in) as well as a service plan from the cellular provider. For example, Verizon has two plans, one at up to 144 Kbps and one up to 2Mbps. The higher speed plan has less coverage. Both cost $80/mo for unlimited usage
