PCMCIA Card Bus and External Hard disk problem (SAMSUNG HDD)

Dear all,

I have spent hours to review all posted thread in http://forums.windrivers.com/archive/index.php/f-3
But I still couldnt find any answer to my problem... I wish you could help me out wit dis one.

Here it goes :

I am using TOSHIBA Satellite 2410-303, running Windows XP Pro , SP2.
Since my internal USB ports are 1.0, I have bought another PCMCIA CardBus with four ports of USB2.0.
Da driver of PCMCIA CardBus has been installed properly, and it works well with my USB mouse and my USB Flash Drive.... But.. here comes da real problem.
I am using another portable external hard drive with box and connector USB 2.0. The model is SAMSUNG 40GB, Dimension 2.5, connectors USB 2.0.
When I plug it into da USB port of PCMCIA CardBus, nothing happens, it says sth like .... An error occured while installing drive, so it must not be working properly bla bla... and when I browse in MyComputer, I didnt see my external hard drive.
OH, a clue, dat hard drive works, if I connect it with my internal USB1.0.

This is what I found on this site myself and it worked for me. I feel your pain because heeded my cry from help as well...Hope it works for you.






May have found a solution to your problem, which may be due in part to XP's/2000's overreliance on digitally signed drivers. Just received Bytecc USB2/Firewire PCMCIA card and had similar issues when connecting USB2 Mini Cruzer -> XP Home SP1 (on Presario 2199US) would freeze/crash system and erase flash drive's contents.

Check Device Manager to see if have Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller. If so, then disable this (Right-click). [Note: may be able to bypass having to disable the device but don't know b/c never tried without disabling it]

Install the software from the included CD-ROM (w/in Windows Explorer):
(ROM Drive):\USB2.0 Host\NEC\Win2000_XP\U2v2_1_4.exe
(Of course, file may be different since you don't have the combo card but the process is similar.)

Don't restart computer afterwards when prompted. Instead, return to Device Manager and right-click the disabled Enhanced Controller to update it.

Make sure you install from a list or specific location. Then select:
"Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." Select Have Disk and browse to the following directory on the drive where XP is installed.

\WINDOWS\Drivers\ousb2
(The exact directory may be different. Watch closely where the files are extracted to after clicking on the included driver file on the CD.)

Now, you should be able to choose NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller Version 2.1.4.0 [6/1/2003]
(Again, this driver may be different.)

It won't be digitally signed but it works. You also may have a new USB 2.0 Root Hub Device showing after XP re-enables the device.

A power adapter is not needed.

Well, I have tried as wat you mentioned, It still didint work, what it says is "Device can not start - error code 10"...

Please help me out...
Is it da problem of my PCMCIA? Or dat SAMSUNG HDD? or ma laptop?
Oh I have just updated da latest bios version from TOSHIBA official website... it is still not working...
