Mass Updates

I currently have 10 XP based machines, I need suggestions on how to run XP updates from my main machine to all the others without going one ot the other. Currently have network on a peer to peer.

Also need suggestions for other network friendly ad-ware/spy bot type of apps. Again, I need to be able to control updates and searches from one PC. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Last question, is there a recommended spyware to use for employee use, that I can access the PC and see a snapshot of the screen, and get a list of the websites? Free preferably.

I used to use one, but It is no longer made and I don't recall the name anyway.

If all computer are in the same SP and Patch level you can download all the updates on one directory, share the directory, make a batch file command to Qchain the files. and there you have it... ;)

For spyware you can use Ad-aware and Spybot S&D. Since the clients are running XP you can either use the remote desktop feature, or a "true" remote control such as Ultra VNC.

I want a single interface to use. For instance, AVG has a nadmin util to use in a network enviroment to run scans, and clean and such from one user interface. Just start up the interface and go, that is what I'm looking for on that side. I can remote desktop to each, but I couold just as easily walk to them and get them going.

How do I go about downloading just the updates without installing them. I haven't been able to do that. The batch idea sounds good, but Qchain only does part of the updates, not all.

In order to download the update - search the updates KB number for instance update KB886185 -> goto google search for 886185. I think one of the first result will lead you to MS site (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886185).
Than you have a download option, just download all the updates into the same location.

The KB thing. Hhhmmmmmm...Sorry..ain't gonna do it..not me.

DUde that takes quite a bit of time to get all the updates, but if you have an auto find and download batch or something, awesome. I will test it.

Go to the Windows update site and if all machines are the same get a list of required updates for one of the machines.
Then on the update site select Administrator Options on the left side.
That will bring up a new selection in the main pane. Select the top category - Windows Update Catalog. That will open another page where you select - Find Updates for Microsoft Operating System.
From there select your operating system and search - a list of all updates is shown - just select the ones you want for download
