I have come here to clutter your forum with more of the same old questions, seeing as how I know absolutely nothing and rely on the good words of others around me.
That being said, I have recently reinstalled windows XP and have no sound at all!
So, are you ready to help me out by answering questions that I could probably figure out the answers to for myself if I were to just use the search button?

If this means anything, when I go into start>accessories>entertainment, and click on the volume control, I get this message:
"There are no active mixer devices available. To reinstall mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware.
This program will now close."

my computer is an HP pavillion 753n, if that makes any sense. I am running windows XP pro. I have service pack 2.
as for soundcard, I'm not sure. How can I find that out?

You can get the driver for your soundcard here:

It's situated at driverguide.com and the link takes you straight to it.
You may need to register but registration is free and easy.
Just download it, unzip and install - you should then have sound again!

A btw for Atodini: Driverguide is not exactly top of my list for where to search for drivers first ;), its a member submission site & the controls on uploading are few & far between, its not unknown to get completely the wrong thing as it was mis-labelled, & I've downloaded malware infected files from there before now, whilst using it as a 'last resort' ;)
