PHP on computer?

Hi there,

Wow, it's been a long time that I pop over here. Nothing much have change, except the new version of the forum, which I find it kinda cool. For all who want to know what's going on with my life, I been busy, mostly school and fighting form some crap going on there as well. *lol*

Anyways, got a question for you all. I'm planing to upgrade my site to PHP soon and the problem is, I can't preview any PHP on my computer and view it before uploading to my site. Is there anyway to let my computer work PHP so I can tweat it to look great before showing it to the world? It would help alot.

This being the lounge, I'd expect that you might find a better response out in the tech forums...perhaps "Programing and Web Design" or "Tech to Tech"...

You want a web server & of course php & most likely a database - or you can find 'all in one' distro's like here

if your programming from windows XP and your using the pro version, you have IIS built into the operating system. enable that, then get PHP installed from www.php.net. if you don't have an os that supports a webserver, get apache installed with PHP and you should be good (you'll have to view it through your own webserver). I would also recommend setting up an SQL database using MySQL.

I do have Windows XP Pro (SP2). :) So how do I enable that? Uh, I wish this PHP isn't so complicated to get it to work on my computer so I can fix it there instead on my server (which uploading is a pain).

inferno, add/remove programs, windows component.

Honestly, if you don't know how to enable IIS, your going to have a lot of difficulties adding in the php module

At this point nobody cares about the specifics of that your programming problem is. However uploading everytime you make a change will be much easier than setting up a php server especially seeing your level of knowledge on the subject. Just use dreamweaver to manage the connections ... all you have to do is hit the up arrow every so often

How come you want to use php? *lol* What benefit will it have for you if you are just *lol* building a client-side website? Are you trying to build a server-side dynamic website? If so, that *lol* can get kinda complicated to learn. It's not as easy as do x y and z and your good to go (unless of course you know what you are *lol* doing).

Btw,.. php is just a scripting *lol* language. If you are paying for or have a free webhost,.. chances are, they*lol* already have some basic *lol* scripts (cgi, etc.) built into your domain.

Because it's easier for me to update the site. *hehe* I'm thinking upgrading my HTML base page to PHP page, as it's egtting harder to update all 200 pages for any typos. Most of the entire site is the same code, except the text.
