Crap[Ep]son CD printer ink smudges

I always hated Epson but I wanted a CD printer and only Epson makes them (that are below $1500).

Well I thought it was too good to be true, I actually liked the printer (for CDs, for normal prints its crap like very other epson), until I found that even 24 hours later just touching the CD wipes the ink right off, and yes, I did use inkjet printable CDs.

I used to print labels on sticker labels and I can pass those under water and not a single drop smears off, you cant even tell its been in water, and that's from an HP inkjet.

So, hopefully can it only be the CDs I used that are crap (Verbatim)? I just emailed Verbatim for a refund because there's no way I'll be selling these CDs.

Does anyone else have a Crapson CD printer and do you have this problem and what CD brand do you use?

i do have the r300 and using verbatim for inkjet priters it works real good,but then i don`t refuel my cartdridges i buy epson`s to have a good result

The pritner is brand new so im using Epson ink, did you use the verbatim silver or white printable CDs? I'm starting to hope and think that it's the solver finish causing the problem.

I've never printer on cd's before, but what is solver finish? or is that silver finish?

I have been using my R300 for some time now. I have not had any problems with the ink not drying. But I have only used white printable disks. I have not used the silver ones. You should give the white ones a try and see if you have the same problem.

Epsons have always used a lot of ink... I remember running into the same problem with some Epson's (normal paper printer) a while back, though it was fine after 24 hours... I got around it by changing the printer settings to lesser quality print and turning on the ink saver option... I don't think this will help much but I figure I'd mention it...

Well I tried getting another brand of CD-Rs so Ill see if those are better, the Verbatims arent that bad, I have to either pass my finger with faire pressure or if my finger is moist then the ink goes off right away.

I honestly couldnt beleive when I passed my HP inkjet printed stickers under water and the ink stayed there, I cant even tell it's been under water, the epson direct print CDs wash clean under water.

And yes I did mean silver, not solver, I'll try the white ones if these other silver ones are the same.

I tried printing my DVD label on the epson to see if it was good enough to sell my HP business inkjet, but not only does it not have double sided printing, the draft printing is a total joke, with black comming out as light gray, so you can imagine the rest. It's also very slow and white on black text is simply unreadable since it puts so much ink the white text almost fully dissapears.

Anyway, I got it as a CD printer only so I don't mind, and, knowing Epson, I knew it couldn't even come close to my HP so I wasnt intending on replacing the HP at all.

You have to buy cds that are specifically labeled inkjet printable, regardless of whether they are silver or white..they need a slight 'tooth' to accept the ink. This from the instruction manual for a typical Epson printer:

I'm not dumb, I did use inkjet printable CDs, theres no way ink would stay on a non printable CD at all.

don't recall saying anything about you being dumb..and since you aren't, i'll assume you also read page 77 of your owners manual which says:

and then goes on to tell you how to adjust the ink density based on the print density confirmation utility
