Hi folks,
I'm about to replace a 60GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 drive - it is so NOISY! constant loud whining hum.
Are Seagate OK these days, technically and warranty-wise (OEM and Retail)? Thinking about replacing with either an 80GB or 120GB Seagate Barracuda (not SATA type)....
Everybody has their own preference; me personally, I've never really cared for Seagates, but they seem to be decently priced and I haven't heard of any mass amounts of problems with them lately.
My personal opinion for HD today:
Seagate: 5yrs warranty, new tech in bearings (i think), Good
Western Digital: they are fairly constant as far as reliability goes, theyre my choice.
Maxtor: Not so good at the moment, heard too many problems.
Samsung/Hitachi: Dont have any but hear that they are silent performers.
my main requirement for buying HD's now is warranty. gotta have 3 years, so I've been buying samsungs more and more
I have pretty much seagates exclusively and I have been very very pleased with them.
I do use some samsungs in my builds for the low end 3 yr waranty and they have been fine as well
Our company still uses Seagate on a regular basis.
For what it's worth, most HP systems still use Seagates also.
