Now this is a fast inkjet

I got my new HP OfficeJet 9110 last monday and even though its the same printer inside as my old business inkjet, it has both a 256mhz and a 133mhz cpu plus 128 MB RAM, my old one had a single 96mhz cpu and I think 8 or 16 MB RAM and when printing anything with graphics the print cradle paused a bit after seach stroke, I thought it was my USB 1.1 connection that wasn't fast enough so I got a 2.0 usb card but it didn't make much difference, this new officejet, even when printing even more complex documents in color, never ever pauses, I've never seen an inkjet go so fast! Look at the video:

I know some color lasers can go even faster, but those cost many times the retail cost of this machine even though this is a 5 in 1, the same printer without the all in one features is about $200 ($400 less). This was the type of inkjet I was talking about in my last post about lasers (lets not start another argument here), this one is almost 6 times faster than any color laser below $1500. Now that I think of it, even the new affordable HP home models are in the 20-30 page per minute price range these days, but those have tiny ink cartridges and I print a lot of 100% covered DVD labels for my software, which is why I stay with the business models because the home ones make 20-30 labels per cartridge and end up costing $4 of ink per label if I didnt refill, but I didnt have time to refill every 30 labels, this one lasts me for months instead of days between refills, not to mention I'm printing a lor more.

And even on draft, the print quality is more than good enough, colors are vivid and dots are nearly invisible, I have an Epson for CDs and on draft it's a real joke, black comes out a very light gray and text is nearly un readable, so if you have an Epson, I'd say draft on this HP is almost as good as normal/best on an epson, and this one at best blows away epsons for text, but it's not a photo quality printer so although it can make very good quality photos, they aren't as good as from a 6 color photo printer, but I have the epson for photos which it does well.

Based on that video, you could print about 6-8ppm, not too bad for an inkjet.

Dunno how you came up with that but its rated 22ppm in color and I calculated at least 12ppm in that video (where its doing a full color page), theres also no waiting time at all between pages as it loads one sheet right after the other so the second its done printing one page it already has the next one ready to print.

Anyway, color laserjets below $1500 don't beat 4ppm on their very fastest setting, and are less than 1 ppm on better quality settings, so this still by very far beats laser speed (unless you're comaring it to a $2000-3000 one).

Not to mention this (and it's $199 printer-only equivalent) come standard with double sided printing, this isn't even an option on lasers below $3500, and is only a very expensive option on multi thousand dollar lasers (which are still not as fast), I'm addicted to this feature ever since I had it on an HP home model years ago, I beleive all HP printers including $100 home models now come with either included or optional double sided printing, this saves tons of paper.

you should get your facts straight.

this $800 color laser printer is rated at 16 ppm and having a couple here at work I can tell you it does pretty close to it's rated speed (certainly MUCH faster than the 4 ppm you claim )

oh and if you look at your printer. the 22 ppm is for draft mode. speed drops substansially as you attempt to get any kind of quality output from it

I'm not a printer tech, but if I'm not mistaken, color lasers print at the same speed regardless of the quality level, the only difference is the amount of toner applied.

Sorry, I hadnt noticed the 3500's had dropped that much in price.

As I said, this printer, even on draft, does EXCELLENT quality, I would very rarely need better than draft, text is perfectly dark black and very sharp, colors are vivid and dots are nearly invisible. The only time I use anything above draft is when I print my DVD case labels which I do on normal setting which is still very fast and does perfect prints.

Don't be fooled by the term "draft", it beats "best" quality of many many inkjets, and it certainly beats "best" of low end color lasers in terms of detail/visible dots, although I would need to use Fast Normal (the 2nd of 4 quality settings) to get as bold colors.

I just checked, the 3550 costs $520 for a new set of cartridges rated at 4000 pages at 5% coverage. My inkjet costs $136 for a new set of cartridges rated at 1750 pages at 5% coverage.

So even if I don't refill, laser is $0.13 for a 5% covered page and inkjet costs $0.07 for the same thing, almost half the ink cost of laser. But since I refill I pay at least 10 times less than the already half cheaper inkjet cost. Running cost was my #1 priority due to the volume I print (a lot of it being 100% covered 8.5x11 sheets for DVD case labels), which is why laser was not an option.

I don't want to start another argument as I've already said, I'm simply saying that the much lower running cost of inkjet is why I chose this technology over laser.

I'm glad you're in love with your inkjet I hope it works out well for you. I just posted to correct non factual information that was passed off as fact. that's all. I believe it's extremely important that the information given (especially in this forum category) is accurate...so if you are going to post information as unequivocal facts, please make sure that the information is accurate.

Simple - it took 8 seconds to grab & print 1 page. (60/8 = 7.5), so that's a true speed test.

Oh, and btw, to call that print "full color" is quite a stretch.

I count 6-7 seconds for that print, any delay before it started was the PC. Also, as I said, there is zero page loading time (except for single sheet prints) since it loads each sheet one after the other, so there's no pause at all between sheets since as soon as the bottom of one sheet is out the top of the next is already there.

Even if it was 7-8ppm, thats still much faster than the low end color lasers at their fastest.

Why is that not a "full color" print? And no matter how many colors there are the speed doesn't change, but in black and white it is a bit faster. Unless you meant not full page, then yes I agree the page isn't 100% covered, in anycase, its more than fast enough for me, after all it is made for an office where 25 people will use it.
