A big advantage is :
Socket 939 supports Dual Channel memory where as Socket 754 does not.

new socket forth comming alread... something like X2 should enable support for DDR2 amoungst other things...
socket 754 is old school, buying it now will get you a toped out system with no where to upgrade to... 939 will hang on fora while longer

A. Yes there's three:-
Upgradeability (socket 939 is likely to be around longer than 754 or that's what AMD are currently planning).
Temperature (939 chips consume less power & therefore need to disapate less heat).
& performance (939 has 'dual channel memory' & other features which make it faster, but most estimates would say the gain is about 3-5% .. but it depends what you are doing & with what ;), the benchmark gains get much more favourable for instance if you use 64 bit windoze & you aren't just measuring performance in Quake ! Database applications might show gains more like 15%).
& the reason why not is currently 'bang for buck', as for 'quite a bit less' you can get something that goes almost as fast.
... but yeah your conclusion is right if you are worried about tomorrows computing needs (& you can afford it !) :).
Saying that performance gain is aprox 3-5% then possibility I should stay with the socket 754 PCI E, and PCI E VC, then I won't have to put out $300.00 plus for a new CPU.Quote:
