usb device problem
the pc is a generic system, with win xp pro, all drivers etc currently updated. it has 4 usb slots on the back, and has several devices (printer, nokia phone etc) attached, along with the problem device - a replacement mouse (joystick).
for quite a while the system has been running fine. but suddnely the mouse locks up (joystick).
i have tried all the usb ports, i've tried the usb joystick in the ps2 socket, the joystick on another pc (its fine), but when used on this pc no matter which port it regularly locks up.
the only resort is to reboot.. then, it will say "unable to recognise usb device ". the only thing to do is switch off and leave it a while.
any ideas?

Power management in usb root hub. Uncheck box to allow turning off to save power.

that did not work.
i found some info about the joystick on their website traxsys.co.uk which said there was a problem with locking up under windows xp.... giving 2 solutions, which i have since tried. no joy.
any more suggestions?

Have you tried another joystick? Does the power draw exceed the total available power per port? I would check the resources of the USB host controllers to make sure you haven't developed a conflict.

after following the guidelines of th joystick website, it did not solve the problem. the company are having it back and sending it to the manufacturer for investigation. my concern is that its an xp problem and a replacement is not going to fix the problem... although the problem did appear suddenly so may be hardware related!
