I'd say uninstall the software, disconnect the scanner, and remove it from the registry (if you know how to do that).
Then, download the latest drivers form the mfg, install them, reboot, reconnect.
If not, try a different USB port (either on the hub or on the PC istelf).
Also, older mobos had USP ports that wern't too great (from around 96-97 in anticipation of Win97) they only had 4 connections instead of 5.
Hope this helps!
Also, depending on the make and model of your scanner, the computer might not recognize if it is not powered up on bootup. Since the computer doesn't think it's there, it won't load up the drivers for that device. You might try connecting the scanner to your computer, power it up...let it go through all of it's power-on-self-tests. Then boot up your PC. Hopefully, things will start flying for you. BTW, which make and model is your scanner? Maybe we can help chase things down that way...
thanks heaps,
So far the machine has been booting and recorgnizing the scanner. Aleast they have not said as yet.
will keep the info on file.
If, as DonJ says, the device isn't fully initialised at Windows bootup, a click on Refresh in Device Manager should let the driver find it.
