Windows XP Sp2
I have a JVC GR-DX97 Camcorder, connected via USB.
Upon using the install CD, I am getting an Install error 'Access is Denied' when installing the file 'JVC PIX-MCV Audio Capture'.
The last tiime I had this problem, was prior to having SP2 install problems. And on that occasion, I had to run a Windows repair install with the camera connected, which worked.
1. Is there an easier way.
2. If not, can I run a Windows Repair on an SP2 build, using a Windows XP original upgrade CD.
The access denied is because the registry permissions are not set correctly by the driver installer. here is the fix
Thanks NooNoo. Do I have to follow instructions by the letter, thus being an SP2 problem.
From the checks made so far, Step 1 brought back no results.
Step 2 - do I need to follow the verbose logging?
Step 3 - looked at Setupapi log file. At the end shows as follows:-

hmm I appear to have had a brainfart... that was not the document I was after
this one shows you what you should do - but of course it is inot for your camcorder so you will have to substitute your camcorder details for the canopus stuff.

The resolution refers to PCI (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\ PCI\. My camcorder is USB connected. Should I be looking in a different folder?
yes you will have to search in the enum key for your camcorder model...

As requested, I followed instructions re registry edit. Unfortunately, I did not back up registry before actioning.
Now have even more problems.
1. Amended registry to full control for everything I could find for my camcorder, after the Enum effort did not work.
2. rebooted windows. lost internet connection. Had to re-register windows. rebooted.
3. Lost visibility of devices in device manager & other windows, just empty windows.
4. Did a windows restore, to yesterday. Things now worse.
5. Now got device manager window back, but lost CD Rom & DVD RW, TV PCI Card & Soundblaster PCI card - all have a yellow exclamation mark. Tried uninstall / reinstall, yellow explanation mark keeps returning, windows advising cannot find a better driver.
Don't know what I've done, but how do I get out of this mess.
Can E-Mail copy of registry if anyone needs to view.

So my advice I think would be 'a repair' of xp, an-inplace reinstall, you just re-run windows setup, over itself ..
But just hang fire until Noo sees this & let's see what she thinks, as she has a train of thought going with it :) - she's aware, as I've mailed her, & I'm sure she'll be along soon .. :thumbs:

If it is down to a windows repair, I obviously have not got a working CDROM, but I do have the floppies.
I have an SP2 build, but with the original Windows XP Upgrade CD. Can I have a guideline on how to do the repaiur install.
Obviously this error was down to a registry corruption, but the amendments I did, I thought related to my camcorder files. I didn't think would cause this error.
PC fires up ok, just cannot get it to see my CD Rom, Soundcard & TV Card drivers.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Windows install over is a good idea at this point, changing the permissions in the registry should not have caused the havoc you described...
Your cd may not work in windows but it will work from boot. Set your computer to boot from cd rom. Let the set up run (do not accept the first repair or the console... when you get to the bit where it asks you where you want to put windows (partitions are displayed). Windows should see the existing installation and offer a repair install. This will install over the top and you will need to do your windows update again... but your programs should stay put.

Using Windows XP upgrade CD, booting from CD is fine. However, upon pressing Enter to continue Windows XP installation, Set-up states 'cannot find Hard disk'.
I have an ATA connected Hard Disk, not IDE connected.
How do I get the Set-up to see my Hard Disk - 'Maxtor 6 Y160MO'.
Wierd thing is that all of a sudden, since coming out of Windows XP set-up, my CD-Rom's are visible again. However, still probs with Camcorder & TV Card & SoundCard.
