It currently has a XP2500 Barton, The Ram is running at 333MHz. As the Ram is 333MHz not the faster 400MHz. The question is what is the fastest Chip that can be fitted?

Jumper options for FSB are 100MHz, 133MHz & 166MHz
I have a had a look at the BIOS, Things I can change... RAM FSB 133MHz, 166MHz (current) & 200MHz with the option to "Bank Interleave" (Disabled) sorry I don't know what this means...
CPU FSB variable from 166 to 199 MHz
Your processor settings are 166. you could use a XP 3200+ 333MHz ,2.2GHz 512kB Socket , even though the board will take 200mhz sdram.
How about the 400MHz Socket A CPU's because I can adjust the CPU up to 199MHz??

You may have settings that will show 199X2 but that motherboard will not achieve that.

While upgrading your CPU be advised the 3000+ @ 3200+ comes both in 333FSB and 400 FSB you want the 333FSB.
Just a case of finding one...
Try turning on your interleave options if it'll stay stable (interleaving is a way of making multiple memory banks appear to be one resource to your system & letting them all get used all at once instead of independently, maybe 10% performance boost here on its own without spending any cash whatsoever ;))
& I'd question how much 'real' performance gain is to be had from moving from an xp2500 chip to an xp3200 .. 700 'virtual' Mhz ain't so much ! - waste of money imho .. maxing out memory will produce more gain performance wise, as would raiding the current system, or even just adding a second disk for your swap file might make as much difference .. ;) (all bits which are 'adding to' your system & not just replacing & chucking 'nearly the same' in the bin!)
