Those magic Radeon X700 PRO drivers.

Hiya. I'm new. :rolleyes:

Alright, either I make this short and simple, or tell the long story . . . Let's go with the short story for now, and if you want the long version, I'll post it!

Short and simple, I buy a new Radeon X700 PRO to replace the Radeon 9600 All in Wonder. (Skip ahead to the problem) When I either download the drivers and install, OR, install the CD software, I will be prompted to reboot, (which I do), then my computer no longer loads the User Login screen. (Windows XP).

Simply, when I install, the computer boots up normally, but then goes to a black screen and doesn't move onto "Click your User Account" screen. I'm practically forced to go into Safe Mode, uninstall the drivers or CD software, then reboot. I'm posting this after about . . . the 7th time of repeating these steps trying to figure out what's going on. I'm giving up and looking for cool people with answers. I'll check back tomorrow, if you need more info, I'll post whatever is needed, I really don't know what else to post. =(

Try this :- Driver cleaner to completely get rid of all your ati drivers for now (or if you prefer uninstall all components relating to your all-in-wonder, including any control {.cpl} entries in control panel) - we want your video card to be showing as 'standard vga' - if you get any update or install driver requests whilst trying, choose 'standard vga' or dismiss them.

Once you've (hopefully) sucessfully achieved normal boot with this(standard vga) showing in device manager, then add any updated drivers :)

Actually, let's consider this topic resolved, it's not the drivers. I'm not a techno dude, but it's either the power supply, or it's not the right card for my motherboard, but it's taken care of. Thanks!

Ah card needs extra power & your current board hasn't got the connector nor your psu ... hope you can swap it easy enough :)

I recently bought an X700 256mb (AGP) and had the same problem. If the power connector on ur card is the same as mine (4 pins male connector), then all u need to do is use the power cable that goes to the floppy drive (4 pins female connector). Obvisously if u wish to use both ur card and floppy u will need to buy a splitter with this connector included. (I still need to do this! But screw it - i only need floppy to install SATA drivers post install.)

Not the right card for the motherboard. So how did you put it in the machine and boot up at all?

Not the right card for the mobo? What the voltages u mean? Also i think u meant to put "put" rather than "out"

In reply to ur question, i made a custom Windows XP disk with the SATA drivers intergerated

Just a note to say that my PC freezes @ the 1st reboot (after ATI driver install) when it gets to the login screen. All i do is reboot again and it works fine. (As mentioned HERE )
