Can't find credit receipt, anything I can do?

I had a $200+ credit at my local PC store and had carefully put the credit receipt in a safe place but somehow it's no longer there. I'll keep looking for it but I'm not so sure I'll find it. If ever I can't find it, is there anything I can do? They can see in their PC that I have a credit and haven't used it, so why would they want the receipt? I think they're just trying to steal my money, is there anything I can do? Are they allowed to rip people off like this? I realize I should have kept it safer than I did, but I really don't see how it dissapeared.

Thanks, I hope I have a way out of this, why couldn't it have happened with one of those $20 credits?? I would have taken that as a lesson learnt, but $200+ is more than I'm willing to pay for that lesson.

Have you actually asked them if you need a copy of the reciept to use the credit?

My guess is they want to see the reciept so that not just anybody can walk in and use your credit.

No reciept no credit is what it amounts to.

We don't require a recipt to use your store credit where I work. If there is a credit on your account and you can give us your personal details that is good enough.

that's the way it was at our old shop - if you had a credit in the system and we knew you, you could use it. - If we didn't know you, we would ask for photo ID.

So is there anything I can do?

Oh, and I did call before going to buy my last item and asked if I need the actual peice of paper to use a credit and the guy on the phone clearly said I don't need it, everything they need for the credit is in the computer.

Now I'm hours away from the return time limit for this item and I think I'll return it for a refund and buy it elsewhere, I wasn't planning on paying for it (I wanted to use the credit).

Of course there's more you can do! March right in, be abusive to everyone in sight and DEMAND the credit to which you are rightfully entitled and be damned to the lot!

What's the worst that could happen? They might hang you upside down from the rafters, slowly flay you alive, build a low fire under your head and laugh when your boiling brains make your head explode. Or perhaps they might just give you a refund. Or even say.... no.

Here's an idea. See if they will take some of your software! :devil:

Radical idea, Mayet! Not sure most retailers (USA, anyway) are ready for it.

Call their account department and ask for copies for your transaction within the period of the last year.
Say that you need it for VAT proposes.
After you get it, you'll see your credit black on white.

Well El Squid....It reminds me of my REIKI teacher that has been married for 4 times (Now he is in 5th marriage to a minus 20 years younger chic than him).
I told him : "You are a teacher....But you never learn......."

As my second wife used to say, if you don't beg you don't get. And nothing says begging like flowers and expensive gifts. Oddly enough, I also have a friend who has been married 4 times. 3 of them to the same woman. After the Berlin Wall came down, etc. they remarried (Number 3) and immigrated from Austin, TX to Czechoslovokia. I got to write the Cz Gov a letter stating what a wonderful individual my friend was (his bride was already a dual citizen). Of course I left out the part about him being a fool and lunatic.

But, to return to the original point; Click, your credit card company will have a record of the transaction. You can get a copy. Even if you are a bit outside the "official" time limit most stores will work with you, especially if you wave a Desert Eagle in their faces while ranting at them. Sorry, Mayet, I'm just not sure the rational approach would work. I bet Steve Irwin wouldn't try it either.
