Can't access Google?
For 3 days now I can't access google, my friends with the same ISP don't have the problem, another PC on the same router has the same problem, I tried resetting the router but it still doesn't work, it just says "Opening page google.com..." forever and then says it can't find it. What could be causing this?
Thanks and merry christmas

I can access it fine on my Pocket PC sharing the connection from the desktop, let me connect the PPC wirelessly direclty to the router and see what that does... It works fine using the PPC connected wirelessly to the router, it seems only the computers with a wired connection to the router can't access it, but sharing the connection of a wired computer to the PPC works (wire from router to PC, other wire from PC to PPC).
Hope this helps identify the problem.

Anything change recently in the setup?
Does this happen to any wired pc on the network, or just the 1 desktop?
-
It seems to be on all wired PCs, I didn't change any setting on the router, and pretyy sure I didn't change anything on the PC. I reset both the modem and router.
Thanks

I dont suppose you have a spare machine that hasnt been on this network you can connect to the router and test? It could be an issue with your local machines (I dont know what exactly), maybe a new machine that's never been on your network will behave differently?

I think your hosts file has been changed.
go to Local Disk (C) >Windows >System32 >Drivers >etc >
Open a file called "hosts". You will need to choose a program to open it. Select notepad.
Then press control A and delete everything.
Then paste what's in the box below into the file.
Save it.
This is caused by spyware, malware, etc.
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost

If this is a D-Link router, then its a manifestation of the famous 'DNS Proxy' bug caused by IPV6. Two solutions-
1. Uninstall IPv6
2. Use a static IP, & enter your IP's DNS servers manually.
Failing that, run the standard virii/ adware checks.

hmm, had a couple of home callouts just before xmas, they had a similiar prob with google and aol. they had both recently installed some weird screensavers. took ages to figure it out, but the screensavers had altered the hosts files, so it seems.
may be nothing to do with your problem but....
good luck

Sounds like you're still not rid of the spyware on your computers.

3fs, as I said I'm ignoring your stupid insulting replies. I have no spyware or adwaware watsoever and regularly scan with all the top recognized scanners. Anyway it was obiously an ISP or other external issue since it started working again by itself, I've also checked everything that was mentioned in this thread and it was none of that.
BTW, how can someone as rude as 3fs actually be a mod??? unbeleivable
3fs: you shoudl go have your PC checked at yourt local PC store, it's definately LOADED with viruses, spyware, adware, dialers, hacking tools, and all your settings are completely wrong, your printer also has the cartridges in wrong and isn't set up properly. You should also go to a microwave class so you can learn how to use your micropwave without setting your house on fire each time. I'd also recommend you sell it and get one with analog controls which may make it possible for you to understand how to use it. You also should quit your job and go work as a waiter.
That's basically how you've been insulting me ever since I was here. Can a "real" mod tell 3fs to stop insulting me, I'm sick of it, he should get warned and banned if he continues, let alone be a mod.

LOLOLOLOL
thats all i have to say

He hasn't insulted you. Maybe if you read the replies you would realize this.
