I just bought a 250GB drive to be able to write the 240GB image file of my broken RAID to restore it, but windows sees a 128 GB drive, it is 250 GB, why is it recognized as 128 GB and how do I fix this? Is there a size limit to IDE drives and is 128 it? How can I get my drive recognized as 250 GB?

There is a size threshold in XP and I believe it is around 130 Gigs. Have you checked the jumpers top make sure there isn't a threshold setting on them? Secondly have tried running fdisk off of a good olod w95 or w98 disk? If not try that and see if tou can make two partitions.

BTW how is it that a modern OS like XP can't even support IDE drives over 128 GB? What are you suposed to do if you want to install Win XP on a >128GB drive? I tried to but setup recognized only 128, can you install anyway and then update and have the same windows drive be recognized properly after the update?
In any case I decided to install win to an 80 gb drive, while using the 250gb solely to copy the 240 GB image file of the old 120GBx2 RAID, just to then format the RAID and put the data all back that was already on to start with, just so the damn raid controller can recognize them again.
I got it working by installing XP on a 80gb drive and then updating to SP2 and putting the 250gb drive, anyway I cannot have 2 partitions since I need to copy a single 240 GB file to the drive, so I need 240 GB of space in a single drive.

Its not just about Windows XP.
If you were the tech you actually claim to be, you would know all about drive limitations and XP. In fact drive limitations have been an issue all along. All the way back to using the manufacturer software to install a drive overlay. Windows XP as pretty much anyone here will tell you needs SP2 right off the bat. In fact a little looking would have revealed that slipstreaming SP 2 into your XP cd isnt a dificult job. Most of us do it pretty much without thinking.

Well, if I'd been here at the time I certainly would have immediately checked if you had at least SP1 installed.
Remember though, 34 views doesn't necessarily mean 34 real people have read your post, a lot of posts are being trawled by bots (Google spiders etc).
