Driver not intended for this platform
My System details: Celeron 1.8GHz, 256Mb RAM, XP Pro 2002 Ver.
It all worked fine till yesterday when the USB Root Hub started coming up with the dreaded yellow "?" in the device manager. The USB port seemed to have died on me since then and no USB peripherals I plug in work.
I tried downloading fresh drivers off the web, I even tried using the original CD that came with the PC to reinstall these drivers. The VIA Rev 5 of later USB Host Controller was installed (x3) and I have a VIA USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller also appearing in the Device Manager. But there are 4 unknown devices which are actually USB Root hub and similar stuff. Now when I try to reinstall the driver for these manually (from the CD and off the web) I get "An error has occurred during installation of the device. Driver is not intended for this platform".
What does this mean? This is the same drivers CD that came with the PC, same Windows XP, everything the same! how come it won't install? Could it be a hardware fault (blown USB)?
Please help :-(
Thanks in advance.
Pierre
Thanks for the replies...no SP2 :-(
Thanks for your replies guys. I do not have SP2 installed here no. Is that a problem? You mean I can't fix this without installing SP2? What niggles me is that everything was working fine just till yesterday (I mean without SP2 installed).
Thanks again.
