i got a pc card dynex network card and downloaded the drivers and unzipped them.
the instructions said to update the network driver by just going to the drivers in the dynex winxp directory.
i tried that and could not get it to install.
one of the times i tried, i let it go on the internet to find the file and lo and behold it did install the dynex sys file and now all is good.
why wouldn't it install from the directory i created from the download.
i did the download twice with the same result.
If the download unzipped with an 'inf' file in the folder you normally have to go to device manager and select the device and update driver and override automatic searching to manually direct the search to your folder you unzipped to.
If the download has an install 'exe' type settup you usually just click on the exe file and away you go.
Not knowing what you had makes it hard to diagnose what your problem was - however, since you got it solved I say - Hurrah!

i was updating the driver and directing it to the directory where the inf file was.
that is what confuses me since it didn't work until i did the go to internet which didn't work the first few times either and then it decided to work.
yeah, it is good i got it working but have been beating myself up trying to figure out why i had problems.
