DVD+RW drive not reading blank dvd media
I've owned a Lite On LDW-811s combo drive for probably a year and a half now. Recently however, when I insert a blank dvd-r or dvd+r into the drive, it is read as a blank CD. Windows explorer gives an error message when trying to copy data to it, and Nero 7 also reads it as a regular cd. Regular cd's are recognized correctly, as are dvd movies (I use WinDVD to watch movies).
I've searched the forums and have found several other people to be having the same problem, and I've tried pretty much everything suggested in those forums. I've uninstalled programs like Alcohol and CureROM, deleted the odd-looking upper and lower device filters, checked the cabling for my drive, uninstalled and reinstalled the drive in windows, and uninstalled and reinstalled Nero 7. I've tried Memorex, RiData, and TDK media and all have the same effect. The only two things I have not yet tried is swapping the drive into a different system, and reinstalling Windows. They seem to be my only options at this point.
The only thing I can think of that is causing this problem is that I did not notice it until I swapped to a new power supply and recabled. I initially thought this was the problem, but I had not attempted to burn any DVD's for a couple months prior to my PSU dying. In that time I had probably installed/uninstalled a variety of buring/viewing software.
Judging by the other posts here, is it possible my drive is simply dead?

EDIT: I may have found the issue. After posting this I was referred to a 2 year old post about ASPI drivers. Sure enough, checking with Nero I found that my ASPI system drivers were corrupt. The question I have now is, how do I fix the driver install? I've downloaded the latest adaptec driver and followed the instructions, yet Nero still says it's corrupt. I hope it's something as easy as deleting the old files and running it again.
EDIT 2: I've deleted the old ASPI drivers and updated to the new ones, and also uninstalled/reinstalled Nero 7. Nero now tells me that my system drivers are functioning correctly, but it is still recognizing the dvd drive as a regular cd drive. I now believe I'm missing a key device filter. Any thoughts on what else to do?
